This blog accompanies the video Easter that can be found here.
Reflecting back on winter, it may have seemed stark, cold and gray. Venturing out may have felt intimidating. But the memory of winter’s chill fades with the first signs of spring. The first blooms break through the thawing earth. Buds begin to clothe trees. Indeed, the earth comes alive once again! It appears to renew you, too. You feel uplifted, more positive, more energetic to tackle new projects. You breathe more deeply. You walk with a skip, laugh more heartily, celebrate more joyfully. You open windows and let the fresh air and gentle breeze penetrate your interior space.
As Christians, we have just experienced the passion of Christ. Like winter, it was a season of stark reality. We lived Christ’s pain, walked along the Via Crucis as the crowd spat and jeered at Him. There seemed to be no end to His suffering. And then, like that first bloom, He rises from the dead. He lives! Our attitude turns to hope and a future full of possibilities! We celebrate because those challenging and dark days of the passion have given way to a new beginning.
