Imagine holding your newborn child or grandchild in your arms. At some point, would a heart-to-heart conversation with the child reflect some of the following thoughts? “I have such dreams for you – to be strong and courageous, kind and loving. I want you to be a bold leader who will help to make this world a better place.”
Fast forward sixty or seventy years. How might this one-on-one review go? “My dreams for you have been fulfilled. While you have had tough and challenging moments which may have rocked your foundation, you have re-built it stronger and better. You have made this world a better place by your presence, by your gifts and skills, by your courage and reliance on truth.”
This may seem like a fairy tale. Our world and, most specifically, our lives and our actions are far from perfect, but no matter where we are in life, no matter what choices we may have made in life, today counts. Today may be the day that we can make the world a better place – by our presence, by our courage, by our kindness, just as our parents or grandparents may have wished for us so many years ago.
